Introduction:  Costa Rica is one of the most 
bio-diverse nations in the world.  Much of the land 
has been set aside in National Parks and Reserves 
to protect the wildlife and plants.   There are many 
web-sites which can teach us a lot about the parks 
themselves and the variety of animals and plants.
 

Student Activities:  Follow the links below to find 
answers to the following questions.  You will need at 
least 15 points to get an "A".
 

1.)  How many species of plants and animals are found in Costa Rica? 
       2 points

2.)  What percentage of the country is set aside for conservation efforts?  
        How many national parks / reserves are there in Costa Rica?  2 points

3.)  Compare and contrast 2 national parks.  What do they offer?  
       What makes it unique?  Where are they located in relation to each 
        other?  What plants/animals are specific to each one?  Be specific!     
        Up to 5 points

4.)  Where could you find large sea turtles burying their eggs?  Which 
       species of turtles are common to Costa Rica and what are people 
       doing (specifically) to protect them?

5.)  In which park/reserve can one find the big cats (jaguars, ocelots, etc.)?

6.)  What are some species of plants and animals found only in Costa Rica? 
       3 points

7.)  How has the large number of parks and reserves affected the 
      Costa Rican economy?  How does it benefit the citizens of Costa Rica?

8.)  What mammals are found in great abundance in the parks?
